People in India face constant issues with spam calls and fraudsters trying to steal money. Most of these incidents cause a lot of discomfort for people but the Indian government finally has a way for you to report these kinds of incidents.
The platform is called Chakshu, which caters to reporting suspected fraud communications that can be in the form of calls, SMS and even WhatsApp calls. The platform says you can report any spam call or fraud message that you have received in the last 30 days. The portal also points out that the Chakshu facility does not handle financial fraud or cyber-crime cases, for which the government has another portal/service to report complaints.
Chakshu Portal For Reporting Spam/Fraud Calls: How It Works
You can go the Chakshu portal over here and start the process to report your complaint.
Now, you will see a list of questions and details that need to be filled, including sharing the screenshot of the incident which could be a spam call or WhatsApp fraud message.
Medium of fraud
Over here, you can select the medium of the fraud which could be a regular call, an SMS or through WhatsApp.
Fraud details
Next step includes sharing the details of the fraud which also looks into the nature of the fraud. The categories mentioned in this are KYC bank related, sextortion, malicious link sent through SMS, fake customer care helpline and more. You also have to attach a screenshot of the fraud which could be an SMS or call details along with the date and time of the incident. The portal then asks for additional details which can be given in 500 characters.
Personal details needed
Once you have shared the details of the fraud, the portal will seek your contact details, including the phone number on which the fraud SMS or spam call was received. After giving all these details, the portal will ask you to verify the form with an OTP on the registered number after which you can submit it to the government body.
